Family friendly restaurants in Dublin North

As I am a Mum with 2 kids under 5, eating out is a luxury and can also be a nightmare! I usually meet my friends in the local shopping centre where the kids can keep each other entertained and enjoy a kid’s meal!! A lot of restaurants claim to be ‘child friendly’ but can be the opposite in my opinion for various reasons e.g. no kid’s menu, no half portions, no changing facilities etc. Here is a selection of cheap and cheerful restaurants I would recommend with the kids!

Casa Pasta 55 Clontarf Road Dublin 3 Tel: 01 833 1402

Casual, relaxed ambience and friendly staff serving modern food in a friendly atmosphere. Early bird menu and children’s menu on offer. The menu is broad with salads and pastas being the main dishes on offer. Even for the children, expect healthy eating which is a must! Child friendly atmosphere. Restaurant is small so booking is advisable!

Debenhams Restaurant Jervis St. Shopping Centre Dublin 1 Tel: 01 8781222

I sent my friend undercover here to get her opinion!! Thanks B. Staff are very friendly, good quality food. Plenty of highchairs for all. What impressed her were the baby services available: microwave, bottle warmers, baby pack with wipes and disposable bib, colouring pencils, puzzles for kids provided etc. Also a bonus is that the baby changing facilities are opposite the restaurant, again these were good and got the thumbs up for the most part. What she disliked was although staff were friendly, nobody helped her carry her tray or offered to help her with the highchair (she is heavily pregnant and had a toddler with her!), a service which she has experienced in other restaurants. Also Debenhams need to put a sign up stating that baby/children’s services are available in the restaurant as you nearly miss the kids free colouring pencils section which is stuck in the corner etc. All in all however, she will be going back and would recommend this restaurant to all ye Mums…..

Eddie Rockets Eddie Rockets restaurants are your no frills, value for money restaurants serving primarily fast food. Great for the kids with a kid’s menu, kids get a puzzle with every meal and are kept entertained with colouring pencils. There are changing facilities and plenty of highchairs for all the messy toddlers. Staff are friendly. The restaurants are located throughout Dublin, Please see their website for further information: www.eddierockets.ie

TGI Fridays BlanchardstownDublin 15 Tel: 01 8225990

The American style restaurant offers great quality food in relaxed surroundings, perfect therefore for the kids as nobody will bat an eyelid if the kids spill their drinks!Staff are friendly and attentive. There is a kid’s menu and as the restaurant is large, it is highly unlikely that you will have to wait for a table. With the Dublin Pass offer, you get a free novelty toy with every main meal purchased from the kid’s menu.

Kay’s Kitchen Clarehall Shopping Centre (Dublin 17) & Donaghmede Shopping Centre (Dublin 13),Blanchardstown Shopping Centre (Dublin 15)
A personal favourite of mine, Kay’s Kitchen offers great food at affordable prices. The kid’s menu includes pasta, vegetables etc so the kids are getting something healthy and tasty too! The staff are super-friendly and know me on a first name basis at this stage (I must learn how to cook soon I think!). If you shop at Tesco, and keep your receipt, you can get a selected main course for 5 euro which is super value! Although the kids don’t get colouring pencils, puzzles etc, they are made feel very welcome which means they get a MYKIDSTIME GOLD STAR!
Thanks to Aisling Gannon who suggested the following eateries with good changing facilities, great bonus!

Foodroom Clontarf, Dublin 3: Wide access for buggies, they’ll bring coffee to the table for you, very nice staff with good (if cold) baby changing facilities

Milano’s Restaurant IFSC, Dublin 1: good changing facilities, and so obliging. Sunday afternoon for kids is a joy with complimentary face painting and toys.

Marks and Spencers Café, Henry St, Dublin 1: Good changing facilities on the same floor as the cafe.

Brams Café, Marino Mart, Dublin 3: So obliging, highchairs etc not an issue. Babybowl is fab…mash with carrots and gravy, hit with the kiddies.

And : Ely Chq Bar and Brasserie, Custom House Quay, Dublin 7: This has been approved as providing healthy kids menus, based on nutritional guidelines, by RTE’s The Afternoon Show. Look out for the ‘Improved Tasty and Healthy Menu For Kids’ sticker and charter in the restaurant! Not to be missed!

These are some of my favourite child-friendly restaurants and eateries in Dublin North County. They are in no particular order and I would love to hear of and add more suggestions!

Cruzzo Restaurant, Malahide Marina, Tel: 01 8450599, www.cruzzo.ie

This restaurant is spectacular! It is situated by the sea in Malahide Marina, fabulous décor, beautiful food, excellent service and children are very welcome with children’s menu and high chairs available. A real special treat!

Gourmet Burger Kitchen, Pavillions Shopping Centre, Swords, Tel: 01 8902422

Family friendly restaurant with American cuisine. Children most welcome, high chairs and kiddies menu, good atmosphere and service.

Oscar Taylors, Island View Hotel, Coast Road, Malahide, Tel: 01 8450399, www.islandviewhotel.ie

Another excellent family friendly restaurant in my opinion. Fabulous sea views, very friendly service, high chairs, baby changing facilities, this restaurant has it all. Early bird and childrens menu. Highly recommend it!

Golf Links, Strand Road, Portmarnock, Tel: 01 8460129

Excellent pub grub and carvery, children very welcome, high chairs and portions to suit. If you like your Sunday lunch in the pub atmosphere I’d recommend, good food whilst admiring the nice view of the coast and Irelands eye.

The House, 4 Main Street, Howth, Tel: 01 839 6388, www.thehouse-howth.ie

A modestly priced bistro-style menu with indoor and outdoor eating. Childrens menu, high chairs and baby changing facilities available. Right in the middle of Howth! Reservations recommended.

The Grange, Oldtown, North County Dublin, Tel: 01 8078888, www.thegrangedublin.ie

Fantastic family venue for a weekend breakfast or lunch. This adorable café is very reasonably priced, has a kiddies menu, gift shop, art gallery and there is even a facility where the kids can take an art lesson. So sit back, admire the striking art by the open fire and enjoy a cappuccino, a glass of wine or some delicious home cooked food. In the summer enjoy alfresco dining in the sunny courtyard. Just wonderful!

Yummies, 10 Old Street, Malahide, Tel: 01 8457633

Yummies is a fantastic place to have a coffee and scone (although menu is very suitable for lunch too). A coffee shop but one with lots of room for buggies, a kiddies menu, high chairs and a ‘garden’ for kids to run around. Highly recommended!

Coachmans Inn, Airport Road, Cloghran, Tel: 01 8401227

I love this place on a lazy Sunday when I want the roast dinner but don’t feel like cooking. Fantastic pub grub and carvery. Superb food and excellent value for adults and childrens meals. Plenty of seating and always busy…….. I suppose that says it all!

Eddie Rockets, Main Street Swords, Tel: 01 8405969 www.eddierockets.ie

American diner type restaurant. Very kiddie friendly with kids menu and colouring. Kids just love it, husband loves the milk shakes, I think a little pricey but a real treat for the young ones!

Castellina Chianti, George’s Hill, Balbriggan, Tel: 01 6903399

Fantastic Italian family restaurant with kiddies menu and high chairs. Great value early bird. Great Service. Would recommend.

Carroll’s PierHouse Hotel, Harbour Road, Skerries, Tel: 01 8491033, www.pierhousehotel.ie

Fabulous location overlooking the Irish Sea, family friendly, super food and excellent value. Family meal deals available, check out the website for more details.

Duffy’s, Main Street, Malahide, Tel: 01 8450735, www.duffys.ie

Popular pub in beautiful Malahide, Duffys would be known to locals for its good food. Whether you want a tea and scone or a 3 course meal you will find delicious valuable food. A popular place for my sister who has a double buggy, plenty of room, high chairs, kiddies welcome!

Please email me with suggestions on good family friendly restaurants and I will include them here…thank you and Happy Eating!
