Finding things to do with very young children can be tough going, especially if you're new to an area! So I've come up with a few ideas to get you started.

Playgrounds are always a big hit with toddlers and most playgrounds around Cavan have dedicated toddler areas. I've always found going to the playground straight after school drop offs was a great time to go for a couple of reasons: 1. It distracted the small girl from the fact that she had been abandoned by her siblings (she was a bit of a drama queen at 2!) and 2. All the running around wore her out, so she slept like a log when we got home and I could get some work done.

If the weather wasn't great, then play centres did the same job. Although air conditioning replaced the 'fresh air' element, but I could live with that! Most play centres also have the added benefit of having an onsite coffee shop, so I could wake up while she wore her self out! Play centres may be listed under party venues on mykidstime, but they're definitely not just for parties.

If you'd like to meet other parents in your area, then parent and toddler groups are the way to go. Don't let the name fool you though, they're not just for toddlers. The youngest attendee I've encountered at a P&T group was an adorable 2 week old baby. So don't let the name put you off if you're craving some adult company. Parent and toddler groups are listed under indoor activities, click here to find one in your area.

Swimming is another option. While I haven't come across any mother and baby classes, both Bailieborough and Cavan leisure centres have toddler swimming pools. They're both open to the public every day and aren't affected by school and swimming club bookings.

Or maybe you have a budding musician? Music is great for child development and there are now a couple of classes for babies and pre-schoolers in Cavan, you can check them out here.
