Q&A How to Wear Accessories

Dear Julie
I find it hard when it comes to knowing how to wear accessories! I always look at other women and think ‘how do they look so coordinated & colourful!?’ Any tips?

Sarah, Meath

Hi Sarah,

Accessories can be such an effective & inexpensive way to mix up your wardrobe. They allow you to try out trends & colours without spending a fortune! Here are some tips!

1. Think of it as a game and your making the rules!

Fashion has come full circle & things no longer need to match so instead of trying to get your handbag to match the colour of your dress, go for a completely colour clash! One of my favourite colour combinations for spring is pinks & greens (see pic). Women will then be looking at your creative flair!

2. When it comes to creating a look, think of the Style Fish ‘Rule of Three’

Start with a basic like denim, add a colour like a coral top & accessorise it with a third colour like your turquoise handbag. It is always the third element that ‘finishes’ the look. Another example would be a classic white shirt, a navy neck scarf & red lipstick!

3. Choose one focal point and work in it!

If you love showing off your hands for example opt for layers of bangles, a statement ring and colourful nail varnish. Keep everything else simple!

4. Think of the look you want to achieve and your personality.

Accessories don’t have to be bold & in your face. If you prefer a more classic look opt for chic black patent heels & a simple neck scarf in one block colour or even black!
