We have found 50 Magical Places to Visit Santa in Ireland this year.
Santas Little Helper Christmas Show 6th December from 1pm – 2.30pm “Have you ever wondered how Santa could know, who’s naughty or nice, each year as you grow? For hundreds of years it’s been a big secret, it now can be shared if you promise to keep it!” This short Christmas production by Imaginosity explores the back story behind those mischievous elves sent to spy for Santa! Suitable for children aged 3-7 years. The event takes place in Powerscourt House. Tickets include entry to Powerscourt Gardens for children to explore 47 acres of grounds after the show.
Nothing says ‘Christmas’ like a visit to the atmospheric Powerscourt Estate in County Wicklow with its tree-lined avenue, fir trees and majestic stately home! Be enchanted with a visit to Santa and Mrs. Claus at Powerscourt House. Book in advance online for dates between November 28th and December 23rd.
And be sure to visit the Animals in the Stables too, see Santa’s animals at Powerscourt Garden Pavilion. Kids will love the chance to meet some farm animals’ right up close including Santa’s deer, pygmy goats, miniature donkeys, rabbits and guinea pigs. Children of all ages and adults alike will enjoy a visit to the stables, which is free of charge.
Bunclody Library have introduced Friday Craft Sessions at 11.15 to 12pm for 3 to 5 year olds and 3.15 to 4pm for kids ages 6 to 9 years. On December 4th come along to make your own 3D hanging mobile of birds or butterflies, on the 11th create a 3D Christmas Tree and on the 18th a Christmas Birdhouse Decoration. The Kilkenny Model Toy Show takes place at The Hub, Cíllin Hill on November 1st.

The 20th annual Science Week takes place from November 8th to 15th. Events take place throughout Ireland and this year, you are being asked to celebrate by hosting your own Science Week Party on November 13th. Ramsgrange Community School in New Ross, Co Wexford, are having a Giant Christmas Market and Craft Fair on November 29th. With more than 80 stalls confirmed this could be the ideal place to pick up some great Christmas Gifts.
Things To Do with Kids in the South East in October
Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) will have an interactive science exhibit at the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska Co, Laois September 22nd-24th. Join Scientific Sue, Physics Buskers and others for interactive workshops including ‘How smart are your clothes’, ‘How to mend a broken heart’, ‘Food is funky’ and Alimentary Adventures, a walkthrough tour of your digestive system!
The Smart Futures programme will also be part of the SFI exhibit this year, with volunteers with backgrounds in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) on hand to provide advice to secondary school students and parents about the opportunities a career in STEM brings.
So be sure to come along and experience science in a fun way and to get you in the mood, why not try out some fun kitchen experiments!
Féile an Fhómhair takes place throughout Carlow town from October 1st to 8th 2015. There will be events for every age group including dance, music and comedy.

October 24th – Are you brave enough to encounter the vampires, ghosts and zombies of Powerscourt Gardens this Halloween? Imaginosity, Dublin Children’s Museum will be out to play again with an experience that guarantees to give the whole family chills and spine-tingling thrills on this new-fangled haunted trail! With only a map to lead them to safety, brave families will be sure to encounter some creepy characters along their journey through Powerscourt’s 47 acres of haunted grounds. Suitable for children aged 3-10.
October 24th & 25th – Create awe-inspiring pumpkins that will enchant the neighbourhood! Celebrate Halloween in Wicklow and come along to the pumpkin patch at Powerscourt Garden Pavilion in County Wicklow and join us for a Halloween Party to remember. Kids will love the chance to prepare, design and carve a pumpkin into something festive and fun at this family-friendly event! All little goblins and ghouls are welcome to dress up in their Halloween finery and get into the festive spirit. Enjoy some delicious treats as part of the event. Afterwards, you can bring your pumpkin home with you and enjoy it during the festive period. Places are limited and can be booked online in advance.
October 26th – To celebrate Halloween, Powerscourt Garden Pavilion has put together a fun class for children to make their own scarecrow. Scarecrows were a familiar sight in farming areas in years gone by, but now they are coming back as a Halloween decoration! With some old clothes and straw, we will be building scarecrows that you can stick in your garden or in your front porch when you’re finished. Whether you use it to scare birds or just as a decoration, your scarecrow will be sure to attract attention and your kids will love the reaction it gets!

Dunmore East Blue Grass Festival, Dunmore East, Waterford: Tuesday 25th – Sunday 30th August. The family-friendly festival will feature workshops where visitors can learn some musical skills to take back home.

Get walking in Kilkenny this September. Kilkenny Recreation & Sports Partnership are holding FREE walks for 6 to 8 weeks starting on September 14th from Xtravision, Canal Square and September 16th from Castlecomer Discover Park. The walks are open to all ages and abilities.

August Bank Holiday
The streets of Waterford play host to the Spraoi International Street Arts Festival from July 31st to August 2nd 2015. With an amazing parade, free music events and street performances from 10 countries around the world this festival is not to be missed.
In Co. Laois, the Durrow Scarecrow Festival, (July 26th – August 3rd), is a family fun event for young and old, with over 300 scarecrows to see around the village.
In Stradbally, Co.Laois, the National Steam Rally celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, from 2nd – 3rd August, with steam and vintage engines, a carnival, trade stands, steam threshing, steam train rides for the kids and plenty of family fun events.

All Island Whale Watch Day is on Sunday, August 23rd. Members of the public are invited to join the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG) on one of 20 land-based whale watches being held at headlands around the Irish coast between 2:00-5:00 pm. Find your closest event.

Powerscourt Estate has some great events including The Secret Garden an afternoon of family theatre on June 28th in association with Chapterhouse Theatre. A Fantastical Fairy Fest with Imaginosity on July 7th.
The Abhainn Rí Festival 2015 will take place from 26th June – 5th July in Callan, Co. Kilkenny. The festival will offer an array of fun, educational and inspiring workshops, experiences and events that will cater for all age groups and abilities.
The Promenade Festival takes place in Tramore, Co Waterford from July 3rd to 5th 2015. This FREE event will include a music trail, street entertainment, an airshow, circus aces and much more.
Bagenalstown Festival Summer Madness 2015 is a family friendly festival, taking place from July 17th to 19th. Events include free street entertainment, music, their ever popular duck race, raft racing along the river guaranteed fun for the whole family.
Bray Air Display on 19th July is Ireland’s largest free air ‘extreme formation’ aerobatics in the skies, with high speed formations such as the ‘Hammerhead,’ the ‘Blade Break,’ the ‘Palm Tree Split’ and the ‘Centrifuge’ set to thrill the crowds.

Post Easter Events
Kilkenny Medieval Week 2015 runs from April 17th to 26th.This fun filled week has workshops and events for families and children running at MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre, Rothe House and Kilkenny Castle. Children’s workshops were jam packed last year so book early to avoid disappointment.
This year brings the ‘Big Dig’ at Macdonagh Junction in association with the School of Irish Archaeology. The innovation project allows children (5-12 years) to explore the Viking world through a simulated and controlled archaeology dig. Kilkenny Castle will also open its magnificent medieval fortress and invites people of all ages to attend a week long programme of workshops and music events.
Powerscourt House and Gardens are running fun Sow and Grow kids gardening class on April 19th. Children will get a hands on intorduction on planting seeds and fresh produce and will plant some vegetables and herbs to take home and enjoy following progress!
Powerscourt are hosting their annual Hop and Hunt on April 6th in association with Imaginosity. There will be an interactive storytellling performance of The Easter Bunny which incorporates a hunt for hidden clues in the Walled Garden at Powerscourt. Suitable for families with children ages 3 to 10 years.

If you didn’t make it to the cinema over the Christmas, there are some great family films showing this month at IMC Carlow, IMC Kilkenny, Omniplex Waterford, Omniplex Wexford, and Gaiety Cinema Arklow. We saw Paddington (read our review) and Annie recently both great and for older children the final Hobbit movie was a big hit.
