Participants will be encouraged to use their imagination to experiment, create and explore different projects. Participants will also take part in outdoor projects and field trips to arts events, taking advantage of the vast cultural landscape of Galway during festival time.
The week will be balanced with indoor and outdoor activities, in various art forms so children will be able to explore areas of known interest, and also take part in art forms they could be learning for the first time. Participants will receive individual attention during their projects, with special modifications for students with different needs.
Art will be facilitated by Fiona Hession, a practicing artist and graduate of GMIT and Huston School of Film & Digital Media. Fiona is an experienced facilitator working with all age groups including the GAC’s successful Burning Bright project. Participants will create art in different mediums such as printmaking, ceramics.
Drama will be facilitated by Lily Kaufman, a Theatre graduate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with experience in acting, technical and producing. Participants will work with Lily on devising their own original drama project. They will work on imaginative writing exercises responding to their experiences throughout the week.
Literature will be facilitated by Maeve Mulreann who is the Head of Visual Arts & Education at Galway Arts Centre. Maeve has experience working with young people in Fighting Words, the Dublin based writing centre for children and young people set up by Roddy Doyle and Seán Love.
