Reading with your smallie is one of life’s pleasures, as they cuddle up and listen to you. To celebrate this special moment, small business owner Suzanne has created Babble Boxes, gift boxes centred around books, and she’s kindly given us a Babble Box to give away!

About Babble Boxes

Babble Boxes are unique presents for little ones. They are also suitable for early years services, preschools and schools and are linked to the Aistear framework. The research is compelling. Children who are read to everyday over the first five years hear 1.4 million words through storytime alone.

“A child, a book, a read, a chat. This is the way the mind grows. Not with a test but a tale.” ~ Michael Rosen, author of We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.

Babble Boxes contain picture books, props, and tips to promote storytime and reading aloud to little ones. Sharing books and songs, helps little ones develop their vocabulary, confidence, thinking and learning skills.

The Babble Box books are chosen for their ‘cuddle up’ potential, language learning potential, great vocabulary and key messages. Babble Boxes also contain puppets and/or toys so the story can come to life, extending the benefits of storytime into playtime. Each box has further developmentally appropriate props e.g. peekaboo scarf or a posting box and an age appropriate tips booklet.

About Suzanne and The Babbling BookClub

Suzanne Reilly is a speech and language therapist based in Limerick for over 20 years. After her youngest child went to preschool, Suzanne started The Babbling Bookclub, interactive story and song classes for babies and toddlers. Then Covid hit and all groups stopped so Suzanne decided to package up her little bookclub into a box. Suzanne says

“All Babble Box books are specially chosen by me for their language and literacy benefits. The puppets and props are to extend the learning form the book into play and bring the stories to life.

All activities in the tips booklets are grounded in early language, literacy and brain development research, and my experience. I am passionate about the communication and brain benefits of reading with little ones. I have four age ranges for my Babble Boxes and the names come from my classes:

  • Tiny Tales Babble Box 0-12 months
  • Tumbling Tales Babble Box 12 months to 2 years
  • Nursery Rhyme Babble Box 12 months up
  • Toddler Tales Babble Box 3 years onwards”
