In a scene-stealing Love Actually kind of way, this year’s Sainsbury’s Christmas ad, named ‘The Big Night’, is a bit of a tear-jerker – just look at the little plug jumping into the socket!

It’s show time! And who better to lead the supermarket giant’s Christmas ad campaign than the acclaimed director of The Greatest Showman, Michael Gracey?
The familiar scene of a school Christmas play is the setting for ‘The Big Night’. In a big budget display, a traditional Christmas is set. Keep an eye out for the Queen on the (cardboard) TV, shiny tree baubles, the drum-playing turkey, a nativity camel, presents, and fairy lights. And not forgetting my favourite – the plug jumping into the socket!

Sainsbury’s Christmas Ad: All the Feels!
The advert follows a young girl dressed as a star nervously stepping on stage before stunning the audience, including her emotional mother, with her phenomenal voice. The star of the show – literally! – is eight-year-old Tia Isaac who gives a stellar rendition of the New Radicals’ classic nineties song, You Get What You Give.
The feel-good ad features almost 60 talented children from across the UK, some as young as six years old. The film also captures genuine reactions from the audience, as some of the cast’s parents are featured seeing their child perform the show for the first time.
With the message that ‘we give all we’ve got for the ones we love’ at the heart of Sainsbury’s new marketing campaign, the emotive Christmas ad will capture the desire we all have to spend time together with friends and family over the festive season.
