The story behind this year’s advert shows how a little act of generosity from a young girl, inspired by the stories from her Grandad, can snowball into something bigger, more exciting and altogether more magical.
The campaign, titled ‘Let’s make Christmas extra special’, follows Tilly and her brother Jack arriving home on a winter’s night.
Tilly sees the Northern Lights and remembers that her grandad once told her this glittering green and blue dust was ‘Santa’s leftover magic’.
So she makes a special fishing rod style gadget out of his old walking stick and a glass jar, and reaches up into the sky to catch a scoop of the lights.
Then she goes around town sprinkling festive cheer with the Leftover Magic.
I liked the fact that as well as being nicely sentimental it showed a young girl being resourceful and building a STEM gadget!
As part of the campaign, Asda has created a children’s book, ‘Santa’s Leftover Magic’, and will donate 10% from every £3 sale in store to Fight Hunger and £1 for each of the first 10,000 books downloaded digitally.
They will also double their green token donation to charities in November and December.
