John Lewis always sets the bar high for a really iconic Christmas ad, and for the last decade their ad has been hotly anticipated. Over the years we have seen two snowmen fall in love, Monty the Penguin, Bear and the Hare, a hilarious bouncing boxer and last year’s cuddly Moz the Monster.
Speculation is always rife as to the theme, and also the choice of soundtrack. This year’s ad is set to Elton John’s Your Song, and there’s a reason why.
This year, they’ve gone a different route and this year’s story is about the power of a gift. And how that gift inspired, changed and influenced the course of a little boy’s life. That little boy just happens to be Elton John.
The film begins in the present day and works backwards chronologically through Elton’s life right until the moment on Christmas morning when he received the special gift that changed his life.
