Earth Quest Family Fun Science Day

September 22, 2019 @ 12:30 pm - 4:00 pm

€8.00

Join us for the Earth Quest Family Fun Science Day taking place at Brigit’s Garden on Sunday, September 22nd, from 12.30pm – 4.00pm.

“We are all astronauts on a little spaceship called Earth.”

Buckminster Fuller – inventor of the Geodesic Dome

What is Earth Quest?

Be one of the first families to take part in the new “Earth Quest” trail around Brigit’s Garden. Working as a team, you will navigate the Garden and solve science-based challenges on your quest. There are several new installations around the Garden including a water engineering play area*, a pedal-power generator, a geodesic camera obscura and a weather station to reveal a few. Families must discover, observe and identify things as they explore Brigit’s Garden, recording their findings on our special “Earth Quest” guide.

*waterproofs/wellies would be a good idea!

What other activities are happening on the day?

There will be plenty more to keep the kids entertained on the day. Mark Langtry, sometimes known as the science guy from RTE Jr’s “Let’s Find Out” show will officially launch the event. Mark has a knack of inspiring children of all ages to learn and understand more about the world around them.

Children can see what lurks beneath by pond-dipping at the Lochán and take part in the leaf-tile making workshop which they can take home. Corrib Coding will be running a construction play area with Duplo building bricks and coding challenges. Children can also try to extract plant DNA with the help of Cell Explorers from NUIG and Dr. How will be wowing us with her exciting science show.

The Garden Café team will be creating some memorable kitchen chemistry and serving hot lunches, kid’s dishes and delicious homemade treats.

We will be looking forward to hearing what you think about our new trail and will be asking for feedback on the day.

“Earth Quest” at Brigit’s Garden will be part of the visitor experience and available all year round at no extra admission cost. Ideally suited to families with children aged 5 – 12 yrs.
