Caring for your baby can leave you feeling overwhelmed and drained at times.  If you are a new parent, here are some ideas for getting out and about with baby.  Finding baby-focused activities is a great way to get out and to meet other mums and babies in a supportive and friendly environment.

Avail of the support provided by the Kilkenny branch of La Leche League in their monthly discussion meetings on various aspects of pregnancy, parenting and breastfeeding.  Babies are welcome too! They also hold a Coffee Morning every month in Kilkenny.

Cuidiú Kilkenny also aim is to provide information to parents which allow them to make informed choices about pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding. They offer support services in three key areas: Antenatal Classes; Breastfeeding Counselling; Postnatal and Parenthood Support. There is a Parent & Baby Group in Kilkenny every Tuesday.

Join a Parent and Baby/Toddler Group. There are groups throughout Kilkenny so you are sure to find one near you.  Most groups meet weekly and they can be an invaluable source of information and a great way to meet other parents.  If you have an older baby/toddler its a great way to let them socialise too.

Classes for Babies and Toddlers in Kilkenny include music, yoga and baby massage.

Bring baby Swimming. Children under 3 years can use the pool at the Watershed for free, any time between 9.30am and 7pm.  Although it may be nerve-wrecking the first time, you will both really enjoy it.

Get out for a walk with baby.  There are lots of lovely walks around the county (many suitable for buggies) and you will feel great after some fresh air and exercise.  It's the perfect activity if you have older children so you can all get out of the house together.
