Ladies Gaelic Football – A Few Quick Facts…

  • Ladies Gaelic Football is the biggest female team sport in Ireland.
  • The Cork Ladies Gaelic Football Team have won 6 out of the last 7 Senior All Ireland Championship Finals.
  • Katie Taylor played Ladies Football in her local club in Bray.
  • Niamh Fahy who plays for Arsenal Women’s soccer team played Gaelic Football for Galway.
  • On All Ireland Final Day in Croke Park we have over 20,000 people watching the games. This year the Championship finals are on Sunday the 30th of September.
  • We have over 20 lives games on TG4 every year.
  • Ladies Gaelic Football is played in Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, and Colleges all over the country and abroad.
  • Ladies Gaelic Football has an initiative called Gaelic4Mothers & Others that gives women the chance to try out football in a non-competitive environment.

What advice would you give to young players? Enjoy meeting new people from football.  Play in as many competitions as you can.  Work on your weaker leg for kicking.  Have fun!

Sinéad Goldrick plays midfield or half back for Dublin. She won many underage All Ireland Medals for Dublin and is now vice captain of the Dublin Senior Team.
