Special Needs Resources in Sligo

Special Needs Resources in Sligo

Some Sligo Parents helped me create this article with their own experiences of finding resources for their children in Co Sligo. Please mail me if you have any other ideas to add.

For Teenagers

There is a Friday evening club in the Avalon Centre (formally St. Annes) for children of all abilities incl. special needs.

There was a drama workshop going on. I’m not sure if it’s still running:

Sligo Parents Support have a lot going on for both parents and children. As far as I know they are in the process of setting up a facebook group.

There are details for them on this page:

There is a computer class run on Tuesday evenings in the Avalon Centre. We were told this through the Autism centre in Sligo. So I don’t know if it’s just for children with autism.

There are a lot of sports activities run in the Sligo regional sports centre. The parents support network should have details of them.

Another one is in The Crib in Rockwood Parade. They cater for 12-18 year olds. They have a drop in centre and different activities (and it’s free). They take kids with and without special needs.

This website was created by Jill Holtz and Michelle Davitt, both of whom are mothers of young children. Jill and Michelle decided to create this resource themselves, and launched in 2007.
