About 3.5km north of Dromod is Derrycarne Wood, where there are lovely nature trails and picnic areas.

Tullaghan Beach

You may not have realised that Leitrim actually has a coastline, about 3 miles, between Sligo and Donegal. Head to Tullaghan Beach for some sand fun!

Carrick on Shannon

By the river in Carrick on Shannon is the Slí Walking Route, it runs for 5.5km and starts near the bridge, opposite the remains of the Castle Carrickdrumruske. It’s a lovely walk along by the river in parts.

Acres Lake Floating Boardwalk at Drumshanbo is Ireland’s first-ever “floating walkway”, it runs 160m out over the Shannon. If you bring swimming gear, there’s also Drumshanbo Outdoor Swimming Pool, a heated pool with shallow end open during summer months. Acres Lake also has an interactive Visitor Centre and a kids playground.

Fowleys Falls

Fowleys Falls in Rossinver has a trail that is perfect for preschoolers. The Trail goes very close to the river and Falls and has picnic tables at one end, perfect for a break too. It’s a real hidden gem and an easy walk for younger kids.

The Organic Centre and Eco Park

At The Organic Centre situated on the south western shores of Lough Melvin you can explore their gardens, follow the butterfly trail or take a bug hunt adventure. There’s a small playground & picnic area and an eco-park with 17 acres of woodlands walks. Entrance fee for the gardens is €4 and concession is €2, children are free.

Glencar Waterfall

Glencar Waterfall is situated near Glencar Lake, 11 kilometres west of Manorhamilton in County Leitrim. It is particularly impressive after rain and can be viewed from a lovely wooded walk with facilities on site including children’s playground, picnic areas, café facilities, tourism information and ample parking.

Glencar Waterfall served as an inspiration to the William Butler Yeats and features in his poem ‘The Stolen Child’:

‘Where the wandering water gushes
From the hills above Glen-Car,
In pools among the rushes
That scarce could bathe a star’

Glenfarne Demesne

Glenfarne Wood is located 1.5 km north of Glenfarne on Manorhamilton/Enniskillen road. It’s at Glenfarne Demesne which used to be part of Tottenham Estate. There is car parking, picnic area, and boat quay at the lake.

There are two trails, the Glenfarne Demesne Cycle/Walk trail is cycle-friendly and is about 4 km while the Lough Macnean Trail is 2.5 km. Look out for the sculptures on the trails. At Myles Big Stone you’ll get a great view of Lough MacNean and the surrounding countryside.
