Dan’s First Crush

When I was in playschool I had a crush on a girl named Lucy. I used to think she was the best and always told my Mam I was going to marry her.

One day in playschool we were both sitting at a table, playing with lego and she dropped one of her pieces.  As my innate manly instinct kicked in, I decided to go under the table to retrieve the piece for her and help my damsel in distress. When I crawled to her seat I noticed that she had moved slightly off her seat and had pooped on the floor directly under where she was sitting. I never spoke to her again. -Dan

Deirdre’s First Crush

I went to an all-girls school pretty much all my life, so my first crush was essentially on the first boy I ever met.

I was 13 and he was the only boy who attended tennis class. I never had the guts to speak to him, but a couple of weeks into lessons he hit a tennis ball into my eyeball. I learned early on that love really does hurt. – Deirdre

Oisín’s First Crush

When I was 15, I went on a date with a girl to play pool. I was really nervous but tried to play it cool.

I was lining up for a shot and she was sitting directly behind me on a stool chatting away. I kept trying to politely ask her to move her head as she was in my way but she wasn’t paying attention. I thought “Maybe, I’m being dumb and she knows I’m not going to catch her”. So, I pulled back the cue – BOOM! Right in the eye!

She went home to her parents with a black eye and everyone in our local town knew about it. – Oisín

Lisa B’s First Crush

I developed my first crush on the local GAA star. My uncle was the team’s coach and I would make excuses to come along to every training session and I would also go to every single one of his matches!

All of my dedication paid off and we ended up kissing at the local disco, which resulted in a 5-week relationship. I then heard through the grapevine that he wanted to be single at the next disco, so I broke up with him first over text! – Lisa B

Euan’s First Crush

My first crush was in junior infants. I had a crush on this girl Diana in senior infants (an older woman!). I remember I made a Valentine’s day card for her with help from my mum. To my dismay, everyone in our classes knew it was me and I was so embarrassed I didn’t make another Valentine’s day card for about 8 years. Diana and I are still in touch though! – Euan

Lisa R’s First Crush

I’m still a die-hard Liverpool fan, because they were the favourite team of my 2nd class crush! – Lisa R
