Best outdoor spots for families in Longford

With the vagaries of Irish weather we have to grab the opportunities to get outdoors whenever we can.  So here's some of the best places in Cavan to get outdoors with kids and enjoy the fine scenery in the county.

Best Picnic Places

  • Tullydermot Falls – The dramatic waterfalls are situated approximately 6km south-west of Swanlinbar in the direction of the Bellavally Gap.  The Tullydermot viewpoint overlooks Slieve Rushen and the lowlands of north Cavan.  There is also a good view of the summit of Cuilcagh Mountain.
  • Killykeen Forest Park – 5 miles west of Cavan town in the heart of Cavan's Lakelands are trails that lead through dark forests, over bridges and along river banks. Picnic areas and children's playground.
