Traditional Family Games Day – Sunday August 19th
On from 12pm until 5.30pm, entertain the kids while revisiting your childhood, with much-loved classics such as the three-legged race, egg & spoon race, giant sack races, tug of war and welly throwing. Races for adults as well as kids!
Activities on the day also include limbo, face painting, balloon modelling, giant games, DJ and much much more!
The Traditional Family Games Day event is included in the General Admission price, which also includes access to the Science Centre, the Great Telescope, 120 acres of gardens and parklands, and the Treehouse Adventure Playground.
Bat Walk & Talk – Friday August 24th
Join us for our Bat Walk & Talk event at Birr Castle Gardens and Science Centre as we celebrate International Bat Day and discover the many native bats that reclaim the skies above us each night.
Learn how to identify Ireland’s different bat species, how they hunt in darkness and why we should be happy to have them living alongside us.
At dusk, we’ll enter the demesne with our bat detectors and explore the treeline, rivers and lakeside listening for bats flying and feeding over the water and surrounding areas.
We have bat detectors that will be handed out for the evening, but please bring a torch if you have one. The ground is un-even so suitable footwear and clothing is essential.
This event is suitable for ages 8+, meet inside the welcome Courtyard at Birr Castle Gardens & Science Centre. Event begins at 9.15pm until 11pm. Places must be booked in advance, €5 per person.
Please be aware that this is a weather dependent event and it may be postponed in the event of wet weather.
