Halloween Fest at Westport House

Have a spooky time in Westport at Westport House’s Halloween Fest from 26th October to 3rd November this year.

The Pirate Adventure Park will take on a eerie theme and there is festive fun all day at Westport House open from 11am – 5pm.  There will be scary story telling, spooky spoons cookery and make your own Jack O’lantern.

Returning also due to popular demand is Thriller! Learn all the moves to the popular song – the kids will amaze with their zombie moves and maybe a few adults will give it a go too!!

The very popular Fireworks Extravaganza takes place on the 27th October from 7pm and promises to be an unforgettable experience.

A Trip to the Museummuseum-countrylife

During October & Halloween we are spoilt for choice in the National Museum of Country Life in Mayo.

On Saturday 12th from 11am – 5pm the Mayo Genealogy Group will be hosting a day of fun events. From talks, tours and workshops in the Museum to other fun activities in the local village of Turlough.

Or why not visit the Hair Hurling Balls exhibition! This exciting new exhibition firmly puts the national game of Hurling right back in history as some balls dated back 800 years! These hurling balls are of matted cow-hair with a plaited horse-hair covering. This exhibition looks at these bog finds in relation to where in the country they were discovered, how they were made and the scientific analysis undertaken by the Museum.

For Halloween there is Kidz Museum: Trick or Treat Make a Beat on the 29th or Family Halloween Activities on the 30th where you can your own ghoulish decorations!

Halloween at Lough Key this year promises to be a scary adventure with a massive schedule of events taking place from 26th October through to the 2nd November.

There will be story telling, Halloween Baking, Falconry Displays, Sing & Move sessions, Pumpkin Carving and many many more activities.

On Halloween itself there will be a Lough SPOOKey fun & dancing from 2pm – 4pm with resident DJ Darragh. Bring your trick or treat bag it just might get filled!!

The Hawkswell in Sligo has a huge list of very entertaining events for all the family in October!

The Mad Hatters Festival of Theatre and Music runs from 11th – 16th and kids will love the singing sharks of Gerry Paul & the Elephant Band, going to the Mad Hatters Tea Party, The Paper Princess, The Speks & Fidget Feet. The Elves and the Shoemaker closes the festival with with flying elves!!!

Another family event that will appeak to everyone is the clown troupe Mimirichi. Their comedy ‘Paper World’ is like nothing you have seen before!

New for this autumn is the Mini Proms! Once a month on Sunday afternoons a rich musical experience will enthrall little and big ones alike!

Killegar Mushroom Festival, Leitrim

Leading mushroom, forestry and wildlife experts will guide visitors the the Mushroom Festival on 12th & 13th October through ancient native woodland.

Some of Ireland’s leading chefs will use wild mushrooms brought by foragers in cookery demos and tastings.

For the younger festival goes there will be an OWLS Nature Club which will deliver an exciting & educational programme about nature. So don’t miss out on this interesting few days!!

Other Events

The Roola Boola Children’s Arts Festival takes place in Castlebar from 26th – 28th October this year with lots of fun events for kids of all ages!

The Enniscrone Seaweed Festival takes place on 20th October with fun filled activites for all the family.

The Sligo Live Festival will run over the October Bank Holiday weekend with lots of fun entertainment for all the family.
