If you’re looking for free things to do in Dublin with the family, a visit to The Round Tower Clondalkin is a must! 1 Tower – 1000 years of history is what you get when you bring the family along for an interactive day out. And best of all, it won’t cost you a cent, unless of course you’re tempted by the goodies on offer in the on-site Happy Pear Café!
One of South Dublin County’s cultural highlights, The Round Tower Clondalkin (www.theroundtower.ie) is built on the site of a monastery founded by St. Mochua in the 7th century, and is one of only four remaining round towers in County Dublin.
The recently launched Visitor Centre provides the perfect FREE family day out, as it brings the story of The Round Tower Clondalkin and the surrounding area to life through an exciting interactive experience.
The fun and educational exhibition can be enjoyed through eight distinctive themed spaces in the refurbished 19th century Mill Cottages. The experience explores:
- The monastic setting
- The Viking legacy
- The 19th and early 20th century setting of Clondalkin.
- The role that round towers performed, both socially and politically, in Ireland.
Suitable for all ages, The Round Tower Clondalkin experience incorporates public gardens, an exhibition and gallery space and The Happy Pear onsite café where tasty healthy food meets famously friendly service. Dine indoors or outdoors during the warmer months, where the scenic café gardens are in full view.
In addition, the Happy Pear Café regularly hold events throughout the year, from cooking courses and competitions, to free yoga every Sunday morning.
What’s more, The Round Tower Clondalkin is located close to Corkagh Park, the Grand Canal Greenway and Áras Chrónáin Irish Cultural Centre, which combined together add a different heritage experience, away from the city centre and close to the natural outdoors of Dublin.
