Riverfest Limerick is a mecca for families, foodies, serious and fun runners and water-sport enthusiasts, taking place over the May Bank Holiday Weekend. We asked one family to be our roving reporter at Riverfest 2019. Read on to find out how they got on!
What is Riverfest?
Riverfest is different from other festivals as it takes advantage of Limerick’s position on the Shannon to offer water and land based events and activities suitable for all ages. Many of the activities are completely free of charge making it accessible to all.
There are so many things for families to see and do at Riverfest Limerick including:
- Water-based activities such as zorbing, zip-lining across the Shannon, and kayaking
- BBQ Cook –Off, the largest in Ireland!
- Fashion Friday
- Riverfest Village – family entertainment, shows, and music
- A spectacular fireworks display!
What Our Family Reviewers Did at Riverfest
Roisin and her family spent the afternoon at Riverfest and reported back on their experience.
We started our Riverfest visit at the spectacular 40 metre Panoramic Wheel at the Potato market, where we got to experience the amazing views across Limerick’s skyline.
Next up was Ireland’s largest BBQ cook-off, we loved seeing all the different competition entries in action, as well as trying out some delicious food from various vendors.
We then spent a while by the water watching people doing some of the fun water activities like Zorbing, Kayaking and the Zip Line over the river!
World class aerial performers, Fidget Feet, put on a spectacular show which saw them perform high above the river. Their show depicted the world of the Shannon Fishermen along with mermaids riding seahorses which was amazing!
Mum Roisin: “We had such a great family-friendly day at Riverfest that I am already marking the calendar for next year’s events!”
Child (8): “I loved the big wheel and the zorbing ball. The flying trapeze were really good. I can’t wait for next time!”
