“There” written and illustrated by Mary-Louise Fitzpatrick
In this beautiful picture book about growing up, a little girl asks “When will I get there?” With bag in hand, she journeys through this question and the numerous others that inevitably accompany it. Written in an eloquent, yet child-like voice that rings true, the story is told in almost entirely question format (with no answers given), “There” addresses both the tentative nature and the determination of small children.
It is lushly illustrated with Fitzpatrick’s landscape paintings that are both open and intimate at the same time. The illustrations perfectly suit the text. “There” is a book to be read and then pondered over again and again.
