Dublin & Wicklow

National Museum of Ireland

The National Museum of Ireland Archaeology, Decorative Arts & History and Natural History are all FREE to visit. They have a full program of events for families and children running across all 3 sites during the February Mid-Term.

Here are 3 we picked out:

  • National Museum of Ireland ArchaelogyMuseum of Natural History, Merrion Square has a Drop-in Activity Spring Into Action on for the duration of the February Mid-Term. And enjoy ‘Amazing Africa’ and ‘Across Africa’ activities on talks on February 20th.
  • Museum of Archaeology, Kildare Street, is all about Africa this February mid-term. So pop in on the 19th or 20th and enjoy the events planned.
  • Museum of Decorative Arts & History, Collins Barracks has Mid-term workshops ‘Sacred Scarbs’ on February 19th & 20th.

Junior Song School at the National Concert Hall

SongschoolJunior Songschool run by Song School takes place February 20th and is a chance for 8-12 year olds to spend some time at the National Concert Hall, learning about writing, performing and recording songs.

Ireland Angling Expo 2016

For something a bit different this mid-term, learn how to fish at the Ireland Angling Expo 2016, on February 20th & 21st at the National Show Centre, Swords.

The Ark

Come along to The Ark this mid-term and enjoy ‘Bees the Musical


Imaginosity Events and CampsEnjoy an ‘Out of This World’ Space Camp at Imaginosity this February Midterm.

Workshops run from February 15th to 19th and are on a first come, first served basis and are suited for children aged 4+ years.


Head along to the Mid Term Art Day at Pine Forest Arts Centre on February 18th. These camps are suitable for children aged 5 to 16 years.

Powerscourt Estate

PowerscourtTake a trip to Powerscourt Estate, for a fantastic family day out. Climb the Pepper Pot Tower, visit the highest waterfall in Ireland, and discover trees that are hundreds of years old, and enjoy the children’s playground.

Or pop along to Tara’s Palace, Museum of Childhood at Powerscourt House, the centrepiece of which is Tara’s Palace, one of the greatest doll’s palaces in the world!

  • The Mermaid Arts Centre in Bray have Songs from Shows on February 17th & 18th, Grease on February 19th & 20th, He Named Me Malala on February 22nd and They Called Her Vivaldi! by Theatre Lovett on February 23rd & 24th.
  • The Irish National Stud has re-opened after the Winter Break and would be great for a visit over the mid-term break.
  • The Chocolate Garden in Wicklow have a Chocolate Workshop for kids this mid-term on February 20th at 2pm.
  • They called her Vivaldi’, a theatre show for kids, takes place at The Pavillion Theatre, Swords on February 21st & 22nd.

North West

Lough Key Forest Park & Activity Park

Lough KeyLocated in Boyle, Co. Roscommon, the Lough Key Forest and Activity Park, offers hours of entertainment for all the family. A wonderful Adventure Play Kingdom will entertain the smallest visitors while the Boda Borg Challenge will test the mental skills and physical agility of everybody over seven!

Take a boat trip on the lake or out to the islands, try the Zipit courses, Tree Canopy Walk, & climb to the top of the Moylurg Viewing Tower.There are miles of biking trails and orienteering courses and loads of picnic spots as well as the Lakeside Café.

National Museum of Ireland – Country Life

Musuem of Country LifeAt the National Museum of Ireland – Country Life in Turlough Park, Co. Mayo kids can ‘Give Their Voice Wings’ at a special origami family activity on February 18th.

Or come along over midterm and enjoy the regular exhibitions for an afternoon.

Hawk’s Well Theatre Sligo

The Hawk’s Well Theatre presents ‘Annie’ The Musical from February 16th to 20th. They are also running a Mini Motor Heads Children’s Workshop on February 28th

Brigit’s Garden

Four Celtic themed gardens based on the seasonal festivals surrounded by 11 acres of nature trail, ogham trees, children’s discovery trail, living willow play area, an ancient ring fort (fairy fort), Roundhouse and calendar sundial , the largest in Ireland.

There is also a family-friendly cafe for lunch/refreshments after your walk.

Galyway City Museum

The Galway Music Residency present the Con Tempo Quartet on February 13th from 11am to 1pm at The Galway City Museum.

Most events are FREE but booking may be required for some.

Galway Atlantaquaria

Galway Atlantaquaria are open throughout the midterm break. Take a trip to see the eels, jellyfish, rays, sharks, crabs and more.

Other Ideas

Atlantic Coast Lifeguards are running a midterm training course for ages 16+ to become a pool lifeguard. The course takes place at the Kingfisher Renmore on February 15th to 19th 2016 and will give participants a Nationally and Internationally recognised certificate.

Be a ‘Scientist for a Day’ at NUI Galway on February 16th from 10am to 3pm. These workshops are for children aged 7 to 13 years and children will enjoy a full day of fun science activities. Places are limited so register today.

Limerick, Clare & Tipperary

The Hunt Museum, Limerick

Hunt MuseumThe Hunt Museum, continue to run their drop in Arts & Crafts on the first Sunday of every month. And for mid-term they are running and ‘Eco Camp’ for kids ages 5+ with loads of exciting Spring Crafts. (booking essential)

Drop in any time over the mid-term and you can Hunt for Treasure and Animals!

Glor, Ennis

At Glor, Ennis on February 29th see Monday’s Child by Brendan Murray performed by Barnstorm Theatre Company.

Ed Masters Magic Show

Enjoy an evening of magic with Ed Masters at ‘Life of Illusion’ Ireland tour in the Millennium Theatre, LIT Limerick on February 20th.

Shannon Heritage

King Johns CastleVisit one or all three of the Shannon Heritage sites in the Southwest this mid-term for an action packed day of fun.

National Craft Gallery, Kilkenny

The National Craft Gallery in Kilkenny host a workshops for families one Saturday each month. The next one, on February 13th is entitled ‘Animal Alchemy’(booking required)

Wexford Arts Centre have a host of classes and activities for families in February 2016 including The Art of Minecraft Level 3 on February 20th.

Ed Masters Magic Show
