St Patrick’s Weekend that means it’s the middle of March!!! The year is speeding up.  Are you looking for activities for the kids in your area this St Patrick’s weekend?  So let’s see what is on in your area for kids and the family to get up to! Here are some of the events that caught our eye over the St Patricks weekend in Dublin & Wicklow.

St Patrick’s Day Parade

Ireland’s leading pageant companies and marching bands from around the world will make the streets come alive in spectacular style on 17th March. This year’s St. Patrick’s Festival includes a Festival Treasure Hunt, big Day Out and family workshops. The Parade begins on Parnell Square at noon on Monday 17th, with this year’s theme ‘Let’s Make History’.



Imaginosity, Dublin Children’s Museum has teamed up with Powerscourt to present a drama workshop for children aged 4-10 years, ‘Irish Myths and Legends: the cool, crazy and condensed version!

Oisin, Niamh, Lir, three swans, a magical land of eternal youth, an angry giant and a fierce warrior, will come together in a fun drama workshop which will truly bring the past to life! This is a fun introduction to Irish myths and legends for young children. The performance will include musical instruments, storytelling and plenty of fun audience participation for the whole family!

St Patricks Celebrations at The National Museums of Ireland

If you are looking for a fun free day out this St Patricks Day, then why not try one of our National Museums.  There is a St Patricks Day Special Tour in the National Museum of Ireland – Archaeology where kids examine artefacts that tell the story of Ireland from prehistory to the Early Christian period.

Or drop in and get your Hands on History at The Museum of Decorative Art & History in Collins Barracks, a chance to explore some of the artefacts from the Museum’s collection of objects for handling with Museum educators – a fascinating drop-in handling session for all ages and they also challenge you to ‘Take A Trail‘.


The Ark

There is a Teddy-themed early years visual arts workshop on Saturday 15 Mar 
(10am & 11.30am) for ages 2-3 lasting 45 mins where artist Orla Kelly will bring young children on a visual adventure through rivers, swamps, forests and caves to find bears!  Please bring along your own teddy bear to join in the fun!

Fairies and Folklore at Dublin Zoo This St Patrick’s Weekend

This Monday 17th March between 12 and 4 pm Dublin Zoo will be transformed into a magical playground of leprechauns and fairies. There will be activities to keep the whole family entertained including maypole ribbon dancing and storytelling time with the leprechaun king. There will also be arts and crafts sessions happening throughout the day, face painters and special keeper talks.

IFI Finian’s Rainbow

This month, to celebrate St. Patrick’s weekend, there’s a special screening of Finian’s Rainbow at the IFI. Based on the 1947 Broadway hit, the musical combines whimsy, a charming leprechaun and a pot of gold with great songs and memorable tunes which will have you whistling all the way home.
