Things to do with Kids in Westmeath, Longford, Laois, Offaly & Kildare this St Patricks Weekend


St Patrick’s Weekend that means it’s the middle of March!!! The year is speeding up.  Are you looking for activities for the kids in your area this St Patrick’s weekend?  Here are some of the events that caught our eye in The Midlands over the St Patrick’s weekend.

St Patricks Parades in Westmeath

Mullingar Monday 17th commencing 3pm & music.

The Athlone  Parade starts at 2:30pm from Golden Island. There will be Music, Entertainment and Buskers throughout the Parade and a Children’s Magic Show – Civic Square at 3:15pm-4:15pm and a Bouncing Castle – Civic Square at 2.00pm-4.00pm
All Children’s Entertainment FREE of CHARGE sponsored by Athlone Town Council.

St Patricks Parades in Longford

Parade starts on Battery Road @12.30pm Viewing Stand on Main Street.

St Patricks Parades in Laois

Portlaoise – Note that this year’s parade has a different start time and a different route. The parade will now begin at 12.30pm instead of 2pm, and will begin directly after the Portlaoise Athletic Club’s street race. It will also follow a much shorter route, beginning at County Hall this year, heading down towards Supermacs and going around the roundabout to come back up to Market Square and then down Main Street. The Athletic Club will begin their races at 11.30pm and it is hoped that people will stay out on the day to see the parade, and the street entertainment afterwards.

St Patricks Parades in Offaly

This year’s Tullamore St Patricks Festival The event takes place over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The parade on Sunday, 16th March, will be the anchor event and this year it will be the best ever seen in the town!  This year’s parade starts at 11.00a.m.

Clara will host a colourful parade on Monday 17th March with plenty of music and culture along with a sports day on the Fair Green with all of the usual craic including tug of war, veterans football and boxing exhibition.

Edenderry This year’s parade will begin at Killane at 2.30pm. It will follow the same route as last year’s and finish at the Dublin road, at Mangan’s Petrol Station.

St Patricks Parades in Kildare

Celebrate our national day in Athy with the parade kicking off @ 3pm, route along William Street, Duke Street and Leinster Street.

This year’s Cellbridge St Patrick’s Day parade has the theme Animal Heroes and starts at 4pm

Newbridge This year’s parade will start at 12:30, and is always a great event, with local clubs, army displays, American cars, face painting and fun street entertainment. Lots of events in Whitewater SC throughout the day also

Clane St Patricks Day Festival runs from Friday 14th until Monday 17th with lots of events including music, quizzes and children’s entertainment. On Monday 17th there will be entertainment on the Street from 2.00pm with the parade starting at 3.00pm.
