What's On: The Inside Scoop on Hullabaloo!

Hullabaloo!, Offaly's Children's Arts Festival is back from October 31st to November 3rd.  We asked Sarahjane Cleary from Birr Theatre & Arts Centre what we can expect.

What can parents expect?

Hullabaloo_ad112_images3_hullabaloogombeen.jpgOne thing parents can expect from the festival is fun filled days for their children and a wide variety of arts such as music, dance, film, drama, craft workshops and much more!!

Hullabaloo! is the only children's arts festival in the midlands providing a unique opportunity for children and giving them a chance to try new experiences in the arts facilitated by professional artists.

What are you most looking forward to seeing at it?

One thing new to this year's festival which I am very excited about is the exhibition we are having all the way from Scotland called 'The Illustrators'. This is an exhibition of contemporary children's book illustrations curated by the well-known author Julia Donaldson.

The exhibition will be on display in Birr Theatre & Arts Centre for the week of the festival and the week after. So don't forget to call in and see this wonderful display of illustrations from books such as The Gruffalo, One Ted Falls Out of Bed, The Princess and The Wizard, Zog and many more of Julia Donaldson books.

Is there anything particularly unique or special that we should definitely not miss?

Something very unique and special we are having at this year’s festival is The Human Beat box. At this workshop children from 8 – 12 years old will learn how to make drumbeats and musical sounds with just your voice. This workshop is facilitated by Irelands leading Beat boxer White Noise. A must for all young music fans!

madsciencekidsAnother unique and special event is Mad Science – The Energy Show. Mad Science introduces children to a world of discovery while sparking their imagination.  This show is an exciting blend of high impact fun; experiments and children have an opportunity to get involved in the show by volunteering to assist with experiments. (4-12 year olds).

Tell us in 5 words why we should go?
