The Belvedere Spook Walks takes place over the October Bank Holiday weekend at Belvedere House Gardens & Park in Westmeath. We asked Bartle D’Arcy, General Manager to tell us why families should go.
This kind of event is a first for the Midlands – what can parents expect over the weekend?
Expect to be frightened! The Belvedere Spook is suitable for children over 8 years of age and is an hour long guided walk through the ancient woods of the estate that come alive over the feast of Samhain where, spirits, witches, ghouls and zombies pass over into the living world.
Being scared makes you feel alive. Travel through several different scenarios and don’t stray from the path as you progress (hopefully) to Belvedere House where the Wicked Earl Lord Belvedere has been waiting 238 years for his dinner to come!
What are you most looking forward to about it yourself ?
As General Manager I will be leading some of the walks myself as there are still 4 people unaccounted for from last year. I am looking forward to the bravado of the children at the start turning into screams and blind panic in the dark foreboding woods. The Spook Walks are great value because children will relive them for the next 4-5 nights on average.

Is there anything particularly unique or special that we should definitely not miss?
Make sure you keep together and that you get to experience everything on the walk. There are things and I mean things that you will never see again.
Bring a small torch, not large powerful ones, outdoor clothing and footwear and something to ward off evil spirits and you will increase your survival chances greatly.
