Family Friendly Accommodation in Clare



With great swimming and surfing beaches, Cliffs, the Burren and so many other attractions, Clare is such a popular destination for holidays.  There are many types of accommodation in Clare that suit families so if you’re looking to come stay for a week or more, then don’t forget some of the popular choices such as campsites, hostels, equestrian holidays, and holiday homes near the beach.  I’ve listed a few places that offer some particularly nice services and amenities for mum, dad and the kiddies.



Clare Inn Hotel & Suites

This hotel really has plenty of activities for kids.  Pitch & putt, crazy golf, tennis courts and playground are on the premises. Indoors, they have a games room with pool tables and arcade machines.  The whole family can enjoy the leisure centre which has indoor pool, kiddies pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gymnasium.  During the summer months and holiday breaks, the Blue Dolphins Kids Club is available.  If that isn’t enough, there is also Dennis’ Den Play Centre on site available at additional charge.

The family rooms can easily accommodate two adults and three kids.  They also have two bedroom self-contained family lodges for more space and/or lengthy stays.  Other services include a restaurant, pub, internet access, and babysitting available.  The hotel overlooks the Dromoland Castle golf course.  There are also some lovely wooded walks nearby.


Clare’s Rock Hostel

“The Family Friendly Hostel” is located in the heart of the Burren.  They have private ensuite rooms, large self-catering kitchens, TV/Common room, WiFi (main hostel), bike hire, laundry facilities, and large meeting room.  The indoor games room has air hockey, pool table, and table football.  Outdoor games include mini golf, giant chess, checkers and connect 4, pentaque (similar to bowls and bocce), horseshoe throwing, and sliotar hitter (hurling game). Guests are also welcome to come onto their farm.  Also, it’s worth mentioning that they are eco-friendly – a rare thing to find in the service industry.


Falls Hotel

In a wooded setting on the River Inagh, the hotel comprises of two restaurants, Dylan Thomas Bar, Aqua & Fitness Club, River Spa, wedding and banquet facilities. The hotel family rooms have a double, two singles and can easily fit a cot.  A self catering cottage and duplex apartments can be rented on a weekly basis.  There is a tennis court, games room, children’s pool in the leisure centre and kid’s club in July and August.  The hours for the kid’s club are 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm which give mum and dad plenty of time to relax in the spa in the morning and also enjoy a quiet meal together in the evening.

Ages 0 – 4 stay free and ages 5 -12 are half price.  Check with the hotel for package deals that offer access to the Cliffs or Bunratty Folk Park with your stay.  They also can organize guided hawk walks.


Lakeside Hotel & Leisure Centre

This hotel is in a beautiful setting and has great leisure facilities that include a 17m deck level pool, kids pool, kiddies splash pool, 120ft. figure of 8 slide, sauna, steam room, gymnasium, jacuzzi, aerobics studio, and supervised creche. Babysitting is available in the evening on request. Also, they will be implementing a healthy options menu for kids cleverly called “Not a Nugget in Sight”.

The family rooms easily accommodate a double, two twin and cot (if required).

West County Hotel

Family friendly hotel in Ennis with interconnecting family rooms, satellite TV, and complementary WiFi. There are a choice of four restaurants: Boru’s Porterhouse pub/carvery, The Pine Room Restaurant, The County Grill, and Café West coffee dock. The Kingfisher Club leisure centre has a 22m pool, kiddies pool, giant jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and gym. There’s a games room for the kids and children’s movies available. Babysitting service available on request.  Mum’s can be pampered in the beauty salon. Ennis is right on their doorstep, so take a stroll through town or play some pitch and putt next door at The Halfway House.
