WATCH: What Kids Think About What It Means to be Irish

What does it actually mean to be Irish? Ask a group of kids and you’ll get answers that are funny, honest, and surprisingly thoughtful all at once. That’s exactly what happens in this short video, where a group of children sit down to tackle the question head-on: “What Makes You Irish?”

The video came about almost by accident. Two of the kids, Luke and Niall, started debating what makes someone Irish — the discussion got lively, a few play-fight bruises were exchanged, and once the camera started rolling, more children jumped in to share their own take.

It’s a lovely little snapshot of how kids see identity, culture and belonging — often in ways that are far simpler (and funnier) than the way adults tend to overthink it.

The video was made as part of a project giving Irish kids a platform to share their opinions on camera, on topics that matter to them. If your own children love chatting, debating or performing for the camera, it’s a nice reminder that kids’ voices — unscripted and unfiltered — are often the most entertaining content of all.
