Got an old book gathering dust on the shelf? Before it goes to recycling, put it to work! Here are 4 fun book crafts for kids that turn worn-out pages into something new — from pretty garlands to homemade bookmarks. They’re simple, low-cost, and a lovely way to spend a rainy afternoon together.
#1. Make Heart Strings
This lovely project turns pages from an old book into strings of hearts, perfect for hanging up as decoration. As well as the book, you’ll need scissors, sewing thread, wrapping paper and tape.
Simply cut heart shapes from the book pages, thread them onto lengths of sewing thread, and hang your strings up wherever you’d like a bit of homemade charm — a bedroom window, a shelf, or a party space.
#2. Create Bookmarks and Tags
Old books and dictionaries that might otherwise end up in recycling can be turned into charming bookmarks and gift tags.
Start by making one or two templates out of cardboard — whatever shape and size you like. Then use the templates to draw around and cut out the old book pages, giving you a set of unique bookmarks or tags ready to use or give as gifts.
