The Department of Education has announced that they are to give extra school holidays for tired teachers.
In a dramatic move to try to tackle teacher fatigue, the Department of Education will introduce the extra school holidays from the start of May. Each term will have an additional 2 days off, while the summer break will be extended for an extra week from end of May 2018 for secondary school students not sitting exams, and from end of June 2018 for primary school students. New terms will start a week later in September 2018.
A Department of Education spokesperson said “There are far too many tired teachers and we need to tackle this once and for all.”
It’s expected that parents will react angrily to the proposed extra holidays due to childcare issues and juggling work. Teachers, on the other hand, have reacted positively to the announcement, with many already booking extra breaks away.
