Shannon Pot
Little warriors will enjoy the history of Shannon Pot, as it can be traced back to the legendary Finn MacCool and the Fianna, the great warriors of Irish mythology. Legend has it that Síonnan, the daughter of Lodan (a son of the Celtic God of the Sea, Lír), came to the Shannon Pot in search of the great Salmon of Wisdom.
The Pot itself is the source of the River Shannon, and the site offers ample parking, picnic areas, and a children’s play area.
Deerpark Forest
Deerpark Forest Walk in Virginia is an easy walk with good pathways through the woods and along the lakeshore.
Start the walk at the car park beside Virginia Rugby Club on the Ballyjamesduff Road. Slí na Sláinte signs are located along the longer walk detailing your route. Follow the path to the right again past a green shed.
Erica’s Fairy Forest
Erica’s Fairy Forest in Cootehill was created by her parents Natasha and Ciaran to honour five-year-old Erica’s memory and her unshakable belief in fairies and magical kingdoms. Bring your letters and pop them in the Fairy Post Box – you never know, you may get a reply! The Fairy Forest is free to visit.
