Looking for something fun and free to do with the kids in Sligo? A trip to the local playground is always a winner — fresh air, room to run, and no screens in sight. Whether you’re near the city or out along the coast, Sligo has a great range of playgrounds to explore, each with its own character. Here are some of our favourites.
Mitchell Curley Park Playground
Mitchell Curley Park sits on the edge of Sligo City on the Ballydoogan road, west of the city centre. Drive about 300 metres past St Mary’s GAA club and you’ll find the entrance on the north side of the road.
The playground has a fully fenced toddler area, with a separate section for older kids to enjoy climbing frames, swings and slides. There are benches dotted around for parents to sit and watch. Once you’ve had your fill of the playground, the surrounding park and walking trail are worth a wander too.
Doorly Park Playground
Across from Cleveragh Road Retail Park, Doorly Park Playground offers a good mix of play equipment, including an interactive technology zone and plenty of climbing nets and structures, as well as swings.
Mum Karen recommended this one to us, and says it works well for both younger children and teens — always handy if you’re bringing along kids of different ages.
Enniscrone Playground
Right beside the beach, Enniscrone Playground is fully fenced and has all the playground essentials — swings, slides and climbing frames. There are seats nearby for parents, so it’s an easy spot to combine with a walk on the beach or a paddle in the sea.
Sooey Playground
For something a little different, head to Sooey playground. Rather than sitting on flat ground, it makes use of the natural slopes around it as part of the play area. You’ll find swings, a slide, a bike merry-go-round and other multi-play equipment. There’s also a picnic area with benches, so it’s a good one to pack a lunch for.
Pairc Cairde Playground, Tubbercurry
Pairc Cairde opened in 2018 and is kept going by dedicated local residents. Along with swings, a slide and climbing equipment, kids can run around the hills and crawl through tunnels — great for burning off some extra energy.
