Honey Sesame Sausages

A simple honey sesame sausages recipe the kids will love. Cook on the BBQ or in the oven for a sticky, family-friendly dinner or party snack.

Honey Sesame Sausages

If you’re looking for a sausage recipe that gets a big thumbs up from the kids, this one’s a winner. The honey adds a sticky sweetness that turns ordinary sausages into something a bit more special, and the sesame seeds give them a lovely golden, slightly crunchy finish.

You don’t need a barbecue to make these — they work just as well finished in the oven, and they’re a brilliant way to dress up cocktail sausages for a party or gathering.

Ingredients

  • 454g/1lb sausages
  • 4 tablespoons of honey
  • 50g sesame seeds

Equipment

  • 1 large pot of water with a lid
  • 1 colander

Method

1. Simmer your sausages in the large pot of water for 15 minutes.

2. Strain into the colander.

3. Empty the water from the pot and, while it’s still warm, spoon in the honey and sesame seeds.

4. Return the sausages to the pot and put the lid on.

5. Shake the pot gently so each sausage gets coated in the honey mixture. The warmth of the pot will loosen the honey, helping the sesame seeds stick to the sausages.

6. Finish the sausages on the BBQ (or under a hot grill/in a hot oven) until golden. Since they’re already cooked through, there’s no need to chargrill them — you’re just looking for that golden, sticky finish.

A Few Tips

  • This method works just as well with cocktail sausages if you’re making finger food for a party — simply reduce the simmering time slightly since they’re smaller.
  • If you don’t have a barbecue, a hot oven or grill will give you the same golden, sticky result.
  • Little hands can help with the “shake the pot” step — it’s a fun, mess-free way to get kids involved in dinner.

FAQs

Can I make these without a barbecue?

Yes. After coating the sausages in the honey and sesame mixture, simply finish them under a hot grill or in a hot oven until golden. There’s no need to chargrill, as the sausages are already fully cooked from the simmering step.

Can I use cocktail sausages instead of regular sausages?

Yes, this is a great way to dress up cocktail sausages for a party. Just reduce the simmering time slightly, as smaller sausages will cook through faster.

Will the honey burn on the BBQ?

Keep an eye on them and turn regularly. Since the sausages are already cooked, you only need enough heat to turn them golden, so there’s no need to leave them over high heat for long.

Can I prepare these ahead of time?

You can simmer and coat the sausages in advance, then simply finish them on the BBQ, grill, or oven when you’re ready to serve.
