Tell us a bit about yourself
My name is Charlotte, and I’m an 18-year-old with a dream to change the face of cancer in young people. I want to raise awareness of cancer and help people who are struggling to cope.
My biggest passion is my YouTube channel, which is a mixture of content including cancer awareness, beauty and fashion videos.
My other big passion is fashion. I love being individual, and I feel fashion helps me achieve that. I love changing my personal style every few months and keeping an eye on the latest trends. I also love accessories, particularly handbags — I’ve got quite a collection now and love adding to it!
Describe your typical day
My typical day would probably involve going into Brighton, having a look at the local shops and seeing what the latest fashion trends are. I love fashion, and I love getting out and about rather than staying indoors.
What do you find most difficult about living with cancer?
The thing I find most difficult about living with cancer is the constant worry at the back of my mind. I’m always concerned, and even scared, that the tumours might start growing again.
In a more practical sense, the thing I find most difficult is not being able to drive — I had a two-year driving ban put in place because of my diagnosis, since my tumour is grade 3.
How do you stay positive?
I stay positive by looking back at how far I’ve come. I understand my condition, and I know it’s something that won’t disappear overnight and that treatment takes time. I’m very lucky to also have an amazing, supportive family behind me.
Why did you start a YouTube channel?
I started my YouTube channel because when I searched for videos about hair loss, I found them very unhelpful. I couldn’t relate to any of the videos I watched, because most of the people making them were adults — no one under 20 was making this kind of content.
I promised myself that when I was well enough, I would make a YouTube channel and talk about the information I couldn’t find myself.
So far I’ve had really positive feedback, and that makes me feel great, knowing I’m making a difference.
