We love a bit of child-friendly baking, and simple cupcakes are always a hit. Whether you’re making a family treat, a party favourite, or something fun for a bake sale, these easy bunny cupcakes are seriously cute — almost too cute to eat!
They’re a great twist on the classic butterfly bun, and the kids will love getting stuck in with the decorating just as much as the eating.

Bunny Cupcakes Recipe
Makes 6
Ingredients:
- 190g self-raising flour
- 190g caster sugar
- 190g soft baking spread
- 200g smooth white chocolate bar
- 3 medium free-range eggs
- 454g pack of ready-to-roll white icing
- 1 tbsp honey
To decorate:
- Strawberry laces
- Chocolate buttons or chocolate chips
Method:
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/Gas Mark 4.
2. If you have a food processor, add the eggs, spread, caster sugar and flour and pulse until well blended. If not, beat the spread with the sugar, then beat in the eggs, then whisk in the flour until smooth.
3. Line a cupcake tin with paper cases and fill each three-quarters full with the mixture.
4. Bake for 18–20 minutes, until risen and firm to the touch.
5. Allow to cool, then cut off the risen dome so the cakes are flat on top.
6. Cut this dome piece in half — these will become the bunny’s ears.
7. Roll out the icing and cut out rounds to place on top of each cake.
8. Brush on a thin layer of honey, grate over some of the white chocolate, and sprinkle it on top.
9. Make two small holes in the top of each cupcake and press in the cut dome pieces as ears.
10. Cut small shapes from the remaining icing for teeth, use chocolate buttons for eyes, strawberry laces for whiskers, and half a chocolate button for the nose.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make these bunny cupcakes ahead of time?
Yes — bake and cool the cupcakes a day in advance, then store them undecorated in an airtight container. Add the icing, ears and decorations on the day you plan to serve them for the freshest, cutest finish.
How long do bunny cupcakes keep?
Once decorated, they’re best eaten within 2–3 days. Keep them in an airtight container at room temperature, away from direct sunlight so the icing doesn’t soften.
Can I swap any of the decorating ingredients?
Absolutely — this recipe is easy to adapt. Swap strawberry laces for a different sweet, or use mini marshmallows, sprinkles or edible eyes if that’s what you have in the cupboard. Let the kids choose their own bunny face!
Are these cupcakes suitable for younger bakers?
Yes, this is a great recipe for little hands. The baking should be adult-led, but decorating the bunny faces is perfect for kids to take over.
