Packed with flavour, this tasty recipe for honey sesame chicken from Lili Forberg’s new book Lili’s Family Favourites is definitely one to try!
Lili says “I usually do the chicken in the air fryer – while that’s cooking, you can prep the rest, and you end up using less oil.”
Lili’s Honey Sesame Chicken Recipe
Serves 3
Ingredients:
- 40g (¼ cup) cornflour
- 1-2 tsp Chinese five-spice powder
- 450g chicken, diced
- light olive or rapeseed oil, for frying
- 1 small onion, chopped
- ½ red pepper, chopped
- handful green beans
For the sauce:
- 60ml (¼ cup) soy sauce
- 60ml (¼ cup) honey
- 60ml (¼ cup) sweet chilli sauce
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
To serve:
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds
- boiled rice, to serve
Method:
- Place the cornflour and five-spice powder in a dish. Add the chicken and toss to coat.
- Brush some oil on the bottom of the air fryer, and brush a little on the chicken. Add the chicken and cook on the highest setting for about 20 minutes, shaking every 5 minutes. (If you don’t have an air fryer, you can cook the chicken in a pan. Fry it in a little oil over a medium-high heat until both sides are browned. Fry one side first, then turn over – don’t stir too much.)
- In the meantime fry the onion, pepper and green beans (or any veg of your choice) in a little oil until just beginning to soften.
- Mix the ingredients for the sauce together, then add to the vegetables and cook for a few minutes to thicken slightly.
- When the chicken has browned, add it to the sauce and vegetables with the sesame seeds and mix together.
- Serve with some boiled rice.
