Calling all bookworms — it’s time to get your reading wiggle on for a great cause! The MS Readathon is back, encouraging children across Ireland to dive into books, rack up sponsorship, and help support people living with Multiple Sclerosis.
The MS READaTHON’s story began in 1988, when much-loved children’s author Roald Dahl launched the very first campaign. Since then, thousands of children have taken part each year, turning story time into fundraising time.

What Is the MS Readathon?
The MS Readathon opens up a wonderful world of adventure and imagination through reading, all in aid of a great cause.
For kids who are already keen readers, it’s a chance to challenge themselves with longer or more advanced books. For children who aren’t so sure about reading, the MS Readathon can help them rediscover the magic of those first “Once upon a time…” moments.
The Readathon typically runs during the month of November each year.
How to Take Part in the MS Readathon

Taking part is simple:
- Sign up at www.msreadathon.ie
- Register with your child’s school (teachers, you can register your whole class), or sign up individually
- Choose whatever books your child likes, and as many as they like
- Ask friends and family to sponsor your child’s reading
Once the Readathon period ends, sponsorship money should be sent back to MS Ireland.
Schools taking part can also find plenty of teacher resources, printable materials, and lesson plans on the MS Readathon website.

About Multiple Sclerosis
Over 9,000 people in Ireland live with Multiple Sclerosis, a chronic disease and the most common disabling neurological condition affecting young adults in Ireland. It’s usually diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40, with three times as many women affected as men. There is currently no known cause or cure for MS.
MS Ireland is the national organisation providing services, information, and support to the whole MS community.
