Best Outdoor Places in Kerry for Families
From stunning beaches to castles to woodlands, Kerry is fabulous for outdoor activities and heading out for the day with the kids.
Muckross House, Gardens and Traditional Farms
Muckross House, Gardens and Traditional Farms in Killarney, has lovely walks from the house down to the Killarney Lakes and Torc Waterfall. Combine a walk with lunch in the lovely cafe. Or just wander around the peace and quiet of the National Park.
At the Muckross Traditional Farm, younger visitors can enjoy the small Farm Animal Petting Area, complete with its own bouncy castle. Then have a sheltered picnic in the Woodland Play Area, with its wonderful slides and swings. You can also visit Ross Castle, located on the lower lake, during the summer months.
Glentennassig Woods
Glentennassig Woods is located just off the Tralee to Dingle road at Castlegregory. It offers spectacular walking along wooden trails surrounded by a lake and Annascaul mountain.
Tralee Bay Wetlands Eco and Activity Park
At Tralee Bay Wetlands Eco and Activity Park you can explore the Nature Reserve and enjoy pedalo boats on the Lake. They also have an outdoor Playground and a cafe.
Kennedy’s Pet Farm & Playgrounds
Kennedy’s Pet Farm & Playgrounds located just outside of Killarney on the Cork Road. Well worth a visit and can accomodate large numbers of people. Plenty of parking available.
Say Hello to Fungie
Fungie the Dolphin entertained many visitors to Dingle from the 1980s until 2020. Sadly he is no more, but you can stop by his statue at the Marina and say hello.

Beaches in Kerry
We have many blue flag beaches in Kerry and other beaches that are almost as good. Why not pack a picnic and head off to the beach and let the kids loose on the sand and explore the rock pools.
Tralee Town Playground
An excellent modern playground with the usual equipment. Highlights include the wonderful rose gardens. Parking is available.
Gleninchaquin Park
Gleninchaquin Park in Kenmare is the ideal place for a family who loves nature. It has parking on-site and is surrounded by the McGillicuddy Reeks.
Be sure to visit the spectacular 140 metre high waterfall as you stroll through the accessible walking routes, woodlands and lakes. Under 6’s are free of charge and a family rate is available.
