How To Make Your Own Pebble Cactus
We all have a few pebbles knocking around the house — picked up on a beach walk, tucked at the back of a drawer, or gathered on a garden ramble. Nothing could be simpler: all you need is a few pebbles, some paint, and a little imagination, and you’re off.
Here’s how to turn simple pebbles into beautiful painted plants. You could even make a whole forest of cacti!
You Will Need
- A nice little jar or plant pot
- Washable, child-friendly poster paint
- Paintbrushes
- Soil or sand, or brown paper/newspaper
- Some round and flat pebbles of various sizes
What To Do
#### 1. Choose the pebbles
Let your child choose the stones that will be used to create their cactus.
#### 2. The first coat of paint
Paint all the pebbles green, using a brush or their fingers. It’s nice to paint each pebble a slightly different shade of green — try an apple green, a deeper forest green, a kelly green, or a pine green. Then let the pebbles dry fully.
You might need a second coat if you want a stronger colour, as stones tend to absorb paint and can look patchy after just one layer.
#### 3. Decorate the pebbles
