Rudolf may be Santa’s most famous reindeer — after all, not every deer has a shining beacon of a nose like his — but we hear he’s kept very busy these days perfecting his social media selfie game.
The good news for the rest of us is that there are plenty of chances to meet the other reindeer (and a few other festive animals) on Santa’s team right here in Ireland. Visiting them is a lovely, low-key way to build up the Christmas excitement with younger kids. Here’s where to look.

Wicklow Christmas Market
Alpacas are a firm favourite at Wicklow Christmas Market, and it’s easy to see why. They’re a softer, slightly sassier stand-in for the traditional reindeer, and they’re guaranteed to raise a smile as they strut and pose like little rock stars. The alpacas make regular appearances at the market during the Christmas season, so it’s worth checking the market’s own site or socials for the current visiting days before you head out.
Elf Town Galway
Santa and his merry band of elves return to Galway each year to welcome families to Elf Town. Your visit begins through the Grand Entrance at the castle gates, where you’ll meet Glitterpants — Santa’s head elf — who’ll teach you the Elf Town Shuffle to get things started.
Along the way, you’ll also meet Santa’s reindeer, explore Jack Frost’s ice house, post a letter through the elf postal portal, dance on the LED dance floor with Boogie the Elf, throw snowballs on the Elf Terrace, share a cookie with Mrs Claus, and enjoy a private visit with Santa himself. At the end, bring the gold coin Santa gives you to Santa’s Toy Shop and trade it in for a toy of your choice.
Elf Town is a popular event, so it’s worth booking tickets early to avoid disappointment.

The Phoenix Park Deer, Dublin
As well as being the largest urban park in Europe and home to Dublin Zoo, Áras an Uachtaráin, Farmleigh House, a visitor centre, picnic spots and plenty of playgrounds, Phoenix Park is also home to a large herd of wild deer.
Head out for a walk, or bring the bikes and scooters, and keep your eyes peeled — you’re almost guaranteed to spot some of the herd grazing among the trees.

Coole Park, Galway
At Coole Park in County Galway, there’s an enclosed area near the Visitor Centre where a herd of deer can usually be seen. It’s also a lovely spot for a family walk — explore the forest trails, look out for swans on the lake, or drop into the Visitor Centre. There’s a café in the old stables courtyard for a warm-up afterwards.
Doneraile Wildlife Park, Cork
Doneraile Wildlife Park, about 11km north-east of Mallow, is a lovely spot for a family walk with marked trails to follow and herds of deer to spot along the way. Next to the house there’s also a low-level garden maze for the kids to enjoy.
Newbridge House and Farm, Dublin
You’ll find reindeer along the woodland walk at Newbridge House, and if you’re lucky enough to visit on Christmas Eve, you might even catch Santa himself stopping by to feed them before their big night’s work begins.
Glendeer Pet Farm
Ireland’s Lapland takes place every year at Glendeer Pet Farm, where alongside a visit with Santa you can see and feed his real-life reindeer, Dancer and Prancer. There’s also a crib with a live cow and donkey, the Elves’ workshop, and plenty more festive scenes to enjoy as part of the experience.
Rathwood, Carlow
Share in the magic of Christmas with the Rathwood Santa Train Adventure, which takes families through the Enchanted Forest to visit Santa as he prepares for the big day. Along the way you’ll pass Rudolph and the other reindeer before arriving at Santa’s woodland home, where each family gets their own visit with the man himself.
