People’s Park
There’s a secure playground within People’s Park at Pery Square, with plenty of space and separate areas for younger and older children. The park itself is lovely to walk around, with a bandstand, a drinking fountain and a large green area to enjoy.
Limerick City Gallery of Art is nearby if you fancy a coffee after your visit to the park. Parking is on-street and a parking disc is required.
Mungret Playground
Mum Aisling says: “Mungret Playground is my number one playground. It has wheelchair-accessible swings, roundabouts and a bouncy bridge, sensory activities, areas for small and bigger kids, a zip line, and much more.
There are also outdoor gym and exercise machines, picnic benches, and walking and cycling paths in the adjacent park area.
There’s also an automated public toilet, which is so necessary and notably missing in many playgrounds.”

Loughill Playground
Mum Deirdre recommends Loughill Playground: “It has the usual play area with slides and swings, and also a small trampoline built into the ground, a sandpit and a zip wire.
In the middle area there’s an all-weather astro pitch. At the far end there’s a permanent bandstand and a little area with chimes and drums and hopscotch. There’s a tarmac path around the whole perimeter of the playground, plus toilet facilities and shop facilities for sweets and drinks during the summer months.”
O’Brien’s Park
O’Brien’s Park on Clare Street has a children’s playground, a park shelter and a cast iron drinking fountain. Parking is on-street and a parking disc is required.
Castletroy Park
Castletroy Park, opposite Castletroy College, has 1.2km of pedestrian pathways, a fully equipped children’s playground, a skateboarding area, a circular cycle route, and a central performance and exhibition area with a covering structure. There’s park furniture, ornamental planting areas, a public car park and a main entrance feature, with off-street parking available.
Curragh Chase Forest Park
Curragh Chase Forest Park at Kilcornan has picnic sites and a BBQ area, toilets, two children’s playgrounds, forest walks and gardens. There’s ample car parking, though a small entrance fee applies per car — it’s worth checking current details before you set off.

Shelbourne Park
Shelbourne Park, off the Ennis Road, has a play area within an open park with a walking and cycling track, and two green areas used for football and for kids to run around. There’s seating around the walk and picnic tables outside the play area, plus toilets and limited off-street parking.
Ballingarry Playground
Ballingarry Playground is a fantastic playground in the local village park in Ballingarry, surrounded by trees with a nice park walk too. Car parking is available.
Moyross Playground
Moyross Playground underwent a facelift after winning the Brennan’s Bread playground competition. It has a large play area with some fantastic wooden climbing structures, a wooden train, a grocery shop role-play area, seating areas and plenty of space to run around.
