If you enjoyed The Mandalorian and fell for the impossibly cute Baby Yoda (officially known as Grogu), you’ll love this comedy short film that imagines what raising him would actually be like. It’s a fun, behind-the-scenes take on parenting — nappies, feeding, babysitters and all.
Parenting is a tough gig at the best of times, and getting to grips with feeding, changing, and nap times is never easy — even for a battle-hardened bounty hunter. This quick comedy watch has plenty of moments for parents, solo or otherwise, to smile at.
Take a Look at Raising Baby Yoda
Comedy YouTube channel The Warp Zone created a short film called Raising Baby Yoda, taking a look at what raising the little green foundling is really like for The Mandalorian‘s protagonist, Din Djarin.
As he grapples with feeding, nappy changes, finding a babysitter and more, the film is styled like a mini reality TV segment, with clips of Mando at home and out and about with his adopted son.
The makers said they were inspired by the hit series and “wanted to take a more in-depth look at what being a Dad to Baby Yoda must be like. At the end of the day, Din Djarin is just a bounty hunter doing the best he can to make ends meet and raise this peculiar child.”
At one point, Mando says wistfully: “One minute you’re flying solo, hunting the worst of the worst at the ass-end of the Outer Rim and the next minute, POOF! You’re saddled with a little green thing. That on top of all your other responsibilities, you have to keep it fed, and clean, and… alive.”
The Realities of Raising Baby Yoda
Feeding Baby Yoda proves a messy affair, but at least Mando can wipe off his armour — even the best Beskar can’t protect him from the smell of a truly bad nappy, though.
In one scene, as he creeps up on his bounty prey, Baby Yoda appears beside him gurgling and laughing, putting him right off the hunt. In another, we hear him on the phone to a babysitter — because as most parents know, finding someone reliable is never simple.
There’s even a run-in with an unimpressed member of the public, as Mando is forced to take on extra work to help cover the cost of raising his ward.
But wait until you see the drawing Baby Yoda makes of himself and “dad.” It’s one of those moments every parent recognises — when your child does something that makes all the hard bits completely worth it.
