A trip to see Santa, a Christmas panto or a festive family show is one of the highlights of the season for so many children — but the crowds, bright lights, loud music and long queues can make these experiences overwhelming for children with autism or sensory processing differences.
The good news is that more and more venues around Ireland now build sensory-friendly and relaxed alternatives into their Christmas programme, so every child can enjoy the magic of the season in a calmer, more comfortable way.
We’ve rounded up some of the sensory Santa experiences, relaxed pantos and Christmas shows that families around Ireland can look out for this holiday season. Dates, sensory sessions and prices are confirmed by each venue closer to the time every year, so we’ve included a link for each one — check their website nearer Christmas for this year’s exact details and to book your place.

Santa’s Magical Cabin – Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Clare & Laois
https://www.mykidstime.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Santas-Magical-Cabin-2023-60kb-1200×800-1.jpg
The award-winning Santa’s Magical Cabin returns each winter, with an elf guide meeting each family and bringing them directly to Santa. Families fill in a “Santa Needs to Know” form when booking, so Santa can greet each child by name and with a personal touch.
Every session is designed to be relaxed and welcoming, so there isn’t a single separate “sensory day” — every day aims to work for every family. If your child has specific needs that might not be met by the standard visit, it’s worth contacting the team ahead of your booking and mentioning it again on arrival, so staff can help your visit run as smoothly as possible.
Santa’s Magical Cabin usually runs across several Dunnes Stores locations and shopping centres, including Cork, Dublin, Clare, Tallaght and Limerick, plus Portlaoise. Check the Santa’s Magical Cabin booking page for this year’s venues, dates and prices.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a sensory-friendly Santa visit or panto?
It’s a version of the usual experience adapted to be calmer and less overwhelming — typically with lower noise levels, softer or unchanged lighting, smaller group sizes, and staff who are prepared to be flexible with children who have autism or sensory processing differences.
Do I need to book sensory sessions in advance?
Yes. Sensory sessions almost always run on specific dates with limited capacity, so it’s best to book directly with the venue as soon as dates are announced.
Are these events only suitable for children with autism?
No. While these sessions are designed with sensory needs in mind, they’re welcoming to any family who’d prefer a calmer, quieter version of a Christmas experience.
Do sensory sessions cost more than the regular experience?
Pricing varies by venue and by year, so it’s best to check directly with each venue for current prices when you’re booking.
