As a parent I find that my tween and teen do show an interest in news off and on, for example, the recent US presidential election, but allowing them to use the news websites that I would trust for fair and non-biased reporting would unfortunately mean exposing them to some awful stories. So having some trusted websites for kids news is handy to direct them to if they ask about a current event or news item. Here are 8 Websites Parents Can Trust for Kids News:

#1. Dogo News

DOGO News is run by DOGO Media, an online network empowering kids to engage with digital media in a fun, safe and social environment.

Their News website covers Current Events, Science, Social studies, Sports and more, as well as having a Books and Movies section.

Scholastic has a cool kids/classroom news website which gives stories and news in a kid-friendly way. I like the news for kids by kids section too.

Stateside, you can keep up to date with recent events or large-scale disasters on the Ready.gov website which gives lots of tips, is child friendly and explains things in a clear manner.

It has a state map that you can click on and ready what’s happening with weather, alerts, disasters and emergency events, as well as understand how to make a Family Communications Plan in the event of an emergency.

I grew up watching BBC Newsround so I was delighted to see a corresponding website where you can read news stories and watch the latest bulletin online.

They also have a cool video of The Week’s Weirdest News Stories which looks very appealing to kids.

The CNN Student News website is designed for older kids age 11+ aiming to bring news to middle and high school age students.

You can watch each daily news bulletin and also see the transcript and feedback on shows.

The NBC Learn website makes historic news reports, current events, and original stories available to K-12 teachers and students. It has curated news stories on its Current Events section as well as news under heaps of subjects like Science, Language, Health & Wellness.

For Irish children, RTÉ has their news2day programme which covers domestic and international news items of interest to younger viewers, shown on weekdays at 4.20pm.

Here There Everywhere is a news website designed for elementary and older children that has the purpose to show kids how they are connected to the world and introduce them to the people and events shaping it.
