Wicklow is one of the best counties in Ireland for getting outdoors with the kids. Between wooded trails, lakeside paths and easy forest loops, there’s a walk here for every family, whether you’ve got toddlers in a buggy or older kids ready for a longer trek. Here are some of our favourite walks in Wicklow for families. Just remember to pack the rain gear, wellies, camera and sun cream — it’s Ireland, after all!
#1. Glendalough
The Glendalough Valley, in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains National Park, has plenty to keep the whole family entertained. Its world-famous Monastic Site and Round Tower sit alongside scenic lakes and valleys, with a wide choice of walks and trails to explore, including sections of the Wicklow Way. There’s something here for every fitness level, from a gentle stroll around the lower lake to longer, hillier routes for more adventurous families.
#2. The Sean Linehan Walk
The Sean Linehan Walk at Tinnakilly Bridge is a lovely walk in the picturesque, historic village of Aughrim. There are a number of short walks to choose from, with the longest coming in at around 4km — a good option for little legs. It’s also a great spot to see local wildlife, though be aware that some sections of the route aren’t suitable for buggies.

#3. Avondale House & Forest Park
Avondale House & Forest Park, just outside Rathdrum, offers lovely forest walks along with a café and a playground, making it easy to keep the whole family happy for an afternoon.

#6. The Railway Walk

The walk finishes at Tomnafinnoge Woods, and there’s car parking available at both ends.
