#2. Finger Frog Puppet

Let your fingers be the hands (or legs) of this simple paper puppet. Cut out your frog body plus 2 legs. On the body cut out two circles for the fingers and then stick the legs on with some Sellotape. Using this idea, you could also make the entire cast of a nursery rhyme or fairy tale in just a few minutes, and then put on your own puppet show!

You will need:

  • 1 x 5oz ball of bulky wool, the bulkier the better
  • 1 x3″ styrofoam ball
  • 2-3 yards of ribbon

#6. Pine Cone Bird Feeder

Care for our feathered friends and also provide entertainment for the kids, by making a pine cone bird feeder.

You will need

  • A large, open pine cone
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening, lard or suet
  • 2 and 1/2 cups uncooked oats or cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup seeds e.g. sunflower/millet
  • Chopped dried fruit/nuts (optional)
  • A few feet of string

Method:

  • Tie a few feet of string to a pine cone.
  • Mix your chosen fat with the oats/cornmeal and add the fruit or nuts if using until blended together.
  • Cover the pine cone with the food mixture.
  • Roll the pinecone in birdseed and then suspend it from a tree branch outside.
