The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a Classic
The Very Hungry Caterpillar story is much beloved, having sold 50 million copies worldwide and been translated into 62 languages.
Since The Very Hungry Caterpillar was published in 1969, Eric Carle has also illustrated more than seventy books, many best sellers, most of which he also wrote.
He and his late wife Barbara also established the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art which you can visit in Amherst, Massachusetts. The museum showcases illustrations from across the globe and aims to to inspire a love of art and reading through picture books.

The new books which will arrive in shops next winter 2019 will be
- Calm with the Very Hungry Caterpillar
- Eric Carle’s Book of Many Things
- Happy Birthday from the Very Hungry Caterpillar.
The new imprint entitled “World of Eric Carle” will feature books emphasizing creativity, discovery, and learning. All backlist Carle titles will be rebranded under “World of Eric Carle”.
Carle said, “I am delighted that Penguin Books for Young Readers is making a special home for The Very Hungry Caterpillar and my other books with the new World of Eric Carle imprint. I hope friends and readers will enjoy my books for many years to come.”
