Born in 1901, Walt Disney was reportedly a shy man who lacked confidence in his younger years. Along with his brother Roy, he went on to found the Walt Disney Company in 1923. The first movie he ever produced was Alice’s Wonderland, a silent black-and-white short that signalled the beginning of an era that has touched the hearts of millions.
Mickey Mouse came along a few years later — the warm-hearted little mouse who’s always eager to help his friends and stand up for what’s right is said to have been inspired by Walt’s own pet mouse. Designed in 1928, Mickey was the star of the first ever cartoon with synchronised sound. Imagine the excitement of that very first viewing! Our hero mouse remains the mascot of the Walt Disney Company to this day.

#1. Bambi (1942)
Our number one pick for a family movie night is Bambi. A little fawn named Bambi learns very early in life about the harshness of the world and, through adventures with his friends, manages to overcome whatever difficulties come his way.
This Disney movie tops the list despite its rough beginning, because it shows children that you don’t always get what you want straight away — sometimes you have to fight for what you need.

#2. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977)
This is a must-see for all the family. Winnie and his friends always seem to get up to adventures, from eating too much honey and getting stuck in Rabbit’s front door, to trying to find Eeyore’s missing tail. We love the way they muddle through and solve the mishaps that befall them. Kids of all ages adore this Disney classic.

#3 Hocus Pocus (1993)

This classic Disney movie about three witches accidentally summoned back to life, who cause chaos wherever they go while trying to restore their youth, has stood the test of time. And wherever there’s a talking cat, you know something crazy is about to happen. It may not be an animated film, but it’s a brilliant family comedy to watch with the kids.
#4. Brother Bear (2003)
An animated film that instils values of brotherly love and respect for all living things. When our protagonist does something he shouldn’t, the spirits transform him into a bear! The standout moment for us is that transformation scene — the colours and sounds are wonderful. A real feel-good movie, suitable for all ages.

#5. Fantasia (1940)

No Disney movie list would be complete without the masterpiece that is Fantasia. Released in 1940, Fantasia is a collection of eight segments set to classical music conducted by Leopold Stokowski. Mickey Mouse appears in one of the segments as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, with a few magical mishaps along the way.
Its sequel, Fantasia 2000, keeps Mickey as the Sorcerer’s Apprentice but adds seven new segments, with conductor James Levine leading the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. It’s just as breathtaking a watch for the whole family.
