Nature Walks in Leitrim
Glencar Hill Walk

The Glencar Hill Walk follows the shores of Glencar Lake and the spectacular Glencar Waterfall, heading towards Dooneens. There’s a climb at the start, but this easy-to-moderate walk rewards you with incredible views over Sligo Bay, Knocknarea, Truskmore, Leanne, the Leitrim Hills and Glencar Lake and Valley.
Aghacashel Looped Walk
Starting in the village of Drumshanbo, this easy 3km looped walk is suitable for all the family, making it a great choice if you’re short on time or have younger legs in tow.
Fowleys Falls in Rossinver

Fowleys Falls has a trail that’s perfect for families with pre-schoolers. It’s not too long, yet you’ll feel a million miles from anything. The trail runs close to the river and falls, and there are picnic tables at one end — perfect for a break.
Carrick-on-Shannon Slí Walking Route
An easy option right by the river in Carrick-on-Shannon, this 5.5km route starts near the bridge, opposite the remains of Carrickdrumruske Castle. It’s a lovely walk that follows the river for much of the way.
Glenfarne Forest Walk
Enjoy fantastic views across Lough MacNean to Fermanagh on a two-hour ramble through Glenfarne Forest, part of the Glenfarne Demesne. Along the way you can follow part of the MacNean Sculpture Trail, take in some striking pieces, and learn about the history of the Tottenham Estate, including Ladies Rest, where the ladies of the Great Hall once came to bathe and relax.
The walk follows forest paths and tracks and is self-guided, with a choice of three varied, signposted circular routes.
Acres Lake Boardwalk

Acres Lake Boardwalk was Ireland’s first floating boardwalk. The 600m boardwalk, in the picturesque village of Drumshanbo, marks the start of a 6.5km linear walking and cycling trail along the Shannon Blueway, running from Acres Lake to Battlebridge Lock near Leitrim Village.
Drumleague Lock Loop Walk
This 5km loop starts at Battlebridge Lock and follows the canal to Drumleague Lock. After crossing the canal at the lock, simply follow the trail back to Battlebridge Lock to complete the loop.
