Ingredients
- Chocolate chip cookies – we made our own, but shop-bought cookies work just as well
- Red food colouring
- Icing sugar – at least 100g
- Butter – 50g
- Mini marshmallows
Method
1. Make your cookies, then cut them in half.
2. Make a batch of buttercream icing by mixing softened butter with sieved icing sugar. Add a drop of milk if you need it softer.
3. Add a few drops of red food colouring.
4. Spread the red icing on each cookie half.
5. Stick mini marshmallows on top of each half to look like teeth, then sandwich the two halves together. Use a little extra icing to help them stick if needed.
6. Enjoy!

Can I use shop-bought cookies instead of homemade?
Yes. While we made our own chocolate chip cookies for this recipe, ready-made cookies work just as well and save time if you’re short on it.
What can I use instead of red food colouring?
Any red food colouring will do the job here – gel or liquid both work, just add it a drop at a time until you get the shade of “gum” you’re happy with.
Why do the marshmallows look like teeth?
Sticking the mini marshmallows along the edge of the red icing and pressing the two cookie halves together creates the look of teeth poking out of red gums – it’s a simple effect but very effective for Halloween!
